2022 FIFA World Cup — Group Stage
Japan (1-0-0) vs. Costa Rica (0-0-1)
Date: Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022
Hour: 5 am ET
Venue: Ahmad bin Ali Stadium — Al Rayyan, Qatar
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is in full swing with more action slated for Sunday, Nov. 27. One of the more interesting matches of the day is a Group E clash between Japan and Costa Rica.
Japan’s 2-1 victory over Germany is one of the biggest group stage upsets so far, leaving time to tell if the Japanese can build off that on Sunday. Costa Rica didn’t come close to that success to start the tournament, falling 7-0 to Spain on Wednesday.
Is Japan good enough to win for the second time in as many matches? Or will Costa Rica prove that it can be much more than a pushover?

After losing 7-0 to Spain, it’s hard to buy into Costa Rica beating Japan after the latter’s massive victory. Costa Rica is now winless in 12 of its last 14 World Cup matchups, scoring only two goals in its last four games at the event.
Meanwhile, Japan’s defense was more than good enough to shut the Germans down in the second half of their clash. Now that the Japanese have won over the likes of Germany and the United States in two of its last four international games, there’s little reason to be scared of the Costa Ricans.
Final Score Prediction: Japan: 2 | Costa Rica: 0
– Japan defeated Germany, 2-1, in its last 2022 World Cup match on Nov. 23, 2022.
– Costa Rica lost to Spain, 7-0, in its last 2022 World Cup match on Nov. 23, 2022.
– Japan is 2-1-2 (WDL) in its last five matches.
– Costa Rica is 3-1-1 (WDL) in its last five matches.
– Japan is 2-0-0 (WDL) in its only two all-time matchups against Costa Rica.
Japan has only played Costa Rica twice over the years but managed to win both matches by a combined score of 6-1. The Japanese look like the clear-cut better squad here and shouldn’t have any issue shutting down the Costa Rican offense while getting a couple of goals of their own.
In another impressive outing, back Japan covering the spread.
Bet: Japan -1 (+135)
