Florida State (1-4) finally got in the win column on Monday and now heads to State Farm Arena at Lake Buena Vista, Florida, on Thursday for the quarterfinals of the ESPN Events International. The Seminoles opened the tournament against Siena (2-2), which has lost its last two games. Leonard Hamilton is in his 21st season at Florida State, where he is 418-246 and has led the team to eight NCAA tournament bids, most recently in 2021. Carmen Mariariello moved up from assistant to head coach of the Saints in 2019 and is 49 -31. Siena hasn’t reached the postseason since the 2016 CBI and hasn’t played in the NCAA tourney since 2010.

The Seminoles snapped their five-game losing streak dating back to last season when they beat visiting Mercer on Monday, 81-72. Florida State led by as much as 16 late in the first half. Cam’Ron Fletcher scored 23 points for the ‘Noles, Matthew Cleveland added 18 and Naheem McLeod finished with eight points, nine rebounds and five blocks.
Siena lost its second straight game on Sunday afternoon at Harvard, dropping a 69-59 decision. The Saints closed to within two points as late as the 10:35 mark of the second half before the Crimson pulled away with a 16-4 run. Andrew Platek paced the Saints with 15 points and Jackson Stormo added 12.
Thursday’s game marks just the second meeting between the programs. The Seminoles beat Siena 89-80 at home on Nov. 18, 1992.
